QWhat is the schedule of the World Championships and World Masters Championships?

The World Championships is scheduled for 17 days from Friday, 16 July to Sunday, 1 August, 2021, and the World Masters Championships is scheduled for 10 days from Tuesday, 3 August to Thursday, 12 August, 2021.

QWhat kind of disciplines / events will be held?

There will be six disciplines at the World Championships: swimming, diving, high diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and open water swimming, while there will be five disciplines at the World Masters Championships due to the exclusion of high diving.

QWhere are the venues for the World Championships and the World Masters Championships?

The World Championships will be held in the waterfront and Momochi-hama areas of Fukuoka.
The World Masters Championships will be held across three cities in the Kyushu region: Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima.

Q How are the events going to be held in venues that do not have pools?

Temporary pools will be installed in Marine Messe and all the other venues for the World Championships. The tournament utilises the compact urban structure of the city, aiming to save time on travel for athletes, to liven up the event, and efficiently run the Championships.

Some existing pools will be used for the World Masters Championships as well.

QWhy are parts of the World Masters Championships taking place in Kumamoto and Kagoshima?

About 10,000 people from all around the world will participate in the World Masters Championships. They will not only compete in the tournament, but also enjoy the sights and culture of the host cities. Accordingly, the decision to host the Championships across the three cities is expected to help spread the enthusiasm for sports and bring economic benefits to the local areas.

The collaboration between Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima, which are major cities in the Kyushu region, are connected vertically with the Kyushu Shinkansen line and will surely spread the economic effects of the event to the whole of Kyushu, leading to the development of the entire region.

QHow can I participate in the World Masters Championships?

The details are currently yet to be finalised. However, if you are in Japan, you need to register with the Japan Masters Swimming Association.

If a large number of participants is expected, qualifying standards will be set.
Participation requirements, entry procedures and other relevant details will be announced on this Web site once they are decided.

Please visit the Furusato Nōzei (tax exemptions for tax payers who donate to local municipalities) website to donate to Fukuoka City. Donations can be made to the Sports Promotion projects of the City

QWhat is the Master Plan of the Championships?

The master plan provides a framework to facilitate the preparations for the event steadily during the period prior to the Championships. In addition to the event concept and characteristics, it also specifies necessary preparations for the event, expected achievements through the event, and system establishment to that end. It will serve as guidelines for all parties involved in operating the Championships, including staff and volunteers.
